Tim Wong developed an interest in programming during primary school and began self-learning and exploring technology in secondary school.
Tim is a Year 1 student in Computing and AI at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His YouTube channel (Wong's Studio) shares various technology and programming content. It was during the process of making these videos that he realized the difficulty of generating Cantonese subtitles, which inspired him to create CantoSub AI.

Our Story
From Cantonese subtitle generation to all-round AI automated production
Starting from Creators' Pain Points
The story of CantoSub AI began in 2024, when our founder Tim Wong was running his YouTube channel "Wong's Studio". As a Hong Kong YouTuber, Tim deeply experienced the complexity and time-consuming nature of making Cantonese subtitles and editing videos.
At that time, the available auto-subtitle tools had very limited support for Cantonese, with low accuracy and no ability to handle the unique Hong Kong "code-mixing" of Chinese and English. This forced Tim and many other Hong Kong creators to either spend a lot of time making subtitles manually or simply give up on subtitles, affecting the accessibility and professionalism of their content.
With his development background and deep understanding of creators' needs, Tim decided to develop an AI subtitle generation tool specifically for Cantonese to solve the real problems faced by Hong Kong creators.
After months of development and testing, CantoSub AI officially launched its beta subtitle generation feature in July 2024. The platform not only accurately recognizes Cantonese, but also perfectly handles Hong Kong's unique "code-mixing" and supports conversion from spoken to written Cantonese, providing unprecedented convenience for Hong Kong creators.
Today, we are actively expanding our services, developing more AI video production tools, including AI audio-to-video, long-to-short video editing, and AI-generated thumbnails. We are committed to becoming the all-in-one AI production assistant for Hong Kong creators, making the creative process more efficient, professional, and enjoyable.
